Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can my child play for Skyline? Skyline Lacrosse welcomes players from Oakland, Piedmont, Castro Valley, and San Leandro. Players residing in neighboring cities with active lacrosse programs must prioritize registration with their local home club.

Which age group is right for my child? We follow USA Lacrosse guidelines to ensure everyone plays in a safe, fun, and competitive environment. Here’s the general breakdown:

    • 8U: Kindergarten - 2nd Grade

    • 10U: 3rd - 4th Grade

    • 12U: 5th - 6th Grade

    • 14U: 7th - 8th Grade

I’m new to lacrosse - how do I learn more? Welcome to the “fastest sport on two feet!” Check out our [About Lacrosse] page for the basics. A pro-tip for parents: volunteer as a scorekeeper or timekeeper - it’s the best seat in the house to learn the game up close!

  • How much does it cost, and what’s included? Check our {Programs Page} for current rates. As a non-profit, we keep fees as low as possible while covering expert coaching, field rentals, certified refs, and league insurance and fees.

Gear: Families provide their own equipment, however, we have limited loaner gear available on a first come, first serve basis.

Note: All players must have an active USA Lacrosse Membership for insurance purposes.

Are any scholarships available? Yes! Skyline believes every child should have the chance to play. We offer confidential financial assistance to families in need. Reach out to our Club Admin to start the conversation.

What is the refund policy? We put a lot of work into season planning, field permits, and coaching commitments based on our registration numbers! Because of these upfront costs, we do not offer refunds for weather-related cancellations or for families who choose to opt our once season planning is underway. Specific cutoff dates for each season can be found on our [Refund Policy] page.

  • What are your seasons? Skyline has two primary seasons - Fall Ball and Spring Season. Fall Ball is a practice season which ends with a local tournament. Spring Season is our competitive season within East Bay Lacrosse League.

    When does the season run?

    Registration:

    • Fall Opens: Jun/Jul

    • Spring Opens: Sep/Oct

    Practices:

    • Fall: Sept - mid Dec

    • Spring Opens: Feb - mid May

    Games:

    • Fall: none, but we participate in the Oakland Lacrosse Jamboree

    • Spring: March - mid May

What is the attendance expectation? Lacrosse is a team sport, and attendance is the engine of our growth! We expect players to attend all practices and games. We know life happens, so if you have a conflict, please update TeamSnap at least 48 hours before practice or 72 hours before a game.

Will we play on Sundays or in the rain?

Weather: Lacrosse is an all-weather sport! If the field is open, we play. We only cancel for flooding, lightning, or field closures.

Sundays: Due to field availability, we do occasionally have events on Sundays. If you have family obligations, communication is key and TeamSnap should be updated.

  • What are evaluations, and does my child need to go? Evaluations (usually in November) help us place plauers on the team where they will thrive. They are mandatory for 12U and 14U players. We look at skill, athleticism, and attitude to form balanced and competitive teams.

What’s the difference between “Rookie” and “Vetran” teams?

    • “Rookie” Teams: Focus on skill development, teamwork, and more equitable playing time.

    • “Vetran” Teams: Our most competitive level and may travel to more Bay Area teams. These teams require a higher level of commitment and playing time is determined by game-time needs and skill.

  • Is lacrosse a contact sport? Safety is our #1 priority! While older division (14U) allows body checking (boys) or stick checking (girls), the younger divisions focus on controlled and limited contact. See the [Lacrosse Rules] page for specifics.

How can I help? Skyline is powered by Parent Volunteers! We ask every family to contribute about 10 hours a season. Whether you’re coaching, managing a team, or bringing snacks, your energy makes the season unforgettable for the kids.
