Spring Season 2020 - Registration FAQs
Registration is first-come-first-served for girls U8/U10 and boys U8.
Registration opens to returning players 2 weeks prior to the new families (with exception to U8.) Returning players were on a team during the 2019 season AND players live in Oakland or Piedmont or go to school at a public or private Oakland or Piedmont School.
Evaluations are for team placement, and to help the club determine most appropriate level teams to register. No evals for boys and girls U8 or girls U10 (because NCJLA does not offer an “A” division at those levels).
Full payment due at registration.
Waitlists will be maintained until we are sure we have enough players to fill rosters. For example, we might cap registration for U10s at 30 players - enough for two teams - and waitlist additional players until we have enough to form a third team.
What is the time commitment to play on a Skyline lacrosse team? Depending on age level, Skyline teams practice between one and three times per week and begin mid-January. Games are on weekends, and run from late February through early May. We expect players to show up to a minimum of 75% practices and miss no more than 1-2 games. The commitment expectation is higher for A teams and more flexible for B teams. We encourage multi-sport athletes, but we can’t operate teams if multiple players miss games and practices. Before you take a spot on a roster, please consider whether you can commit to a minimum level of participation.
What if my child is a returning player, but I don’t register in time, and the age group fills? Registration opens to returning players two weeks prior to new families. If an age group fills before you register, you will be placed on waitlist.
Will my child be moved off the waitlist? Maybe. We will move player off of waitlists when 1) another player drops and a space opens, or 2) when the waitlist grows large enough to form a new team. Our goal is to place as many lacrosse players on teams as our club can accommodate.
When will I find out what team my child is placed on? Team placements will be announced in early-mid December.
What if I don’t like the team my child was assigned to? Our goal is to form teams that will provide the best lacrosse experience for as many players as our club can accommodate. We are not able to honor requests to change teams.
Can I request that my child be placed on a team with a friend? Sorry, no friend requests. Lacrosse is a great opportunity to make new friends.
Why do you hold evaluations if registration is first come first served? We hold evaluations for team placement purposes. We evaluate players to determine whether they should play on an A or B team. Depending on players’ skill and experience, Skyline may not offer A and B teams at all age levels. Sometimes, we can provide a better experience by offering two B teams. There are no A teams at U8, or for U10 girls. This is because the Northern California Junior Lacrosse Association does not offer an A division for those groups.
Are evaluations held for all ages? No, we do not hold evaluations for U8 players or for U10 girls. This is because the Northern California Junior Lacrosse Association does not offer an A division for those groups, so we do not split teams by ability level.
